Matomo alternative with nothing to set up
Matomo is the closest feature-for-feature replacement for Google Analytics, and it behaves like one. Datrika does less, costs about a quarter at ordinary volumes and has no privacy settings to get wrong.
Datrika is a cookieless web analytics service built in Czechia and hosted in the EU. Goals, funnels, visitor journeys, public dashboards and team members come with every paid plan, which starts at €6 a month.

What the same traffic costs
Matomo counts hits, we count events. A hit is any request that reaches Matomo: a pageview, an event, a file download, an outbound link, a site search. We count pageviews and the custom events you turn on, so at the same traffic Matomo usually counts faster.
| Requests a month | Datrika | |

Matomo Cloud prices exclude VAT and assume monthly billing, verified on 13 August 2026. Matomo sells no plan at 200,000 or 500,000 hits, so those rows show the next plan up. Paying yearly gets you two months free at Matomo.
Go over the limit and Matomo adds €83 a month for every 500,000 extra hits. With us collection pauses until the next period or an upgrade and nothing extra appears on the invoice.
Twelve steps, or none
- Paste one line into the page header.
- Turn cookies off.
- Anonymise the IP address.
- Anonymise the referrer.
- Keep personal data out of page URLs.
- Keep it out of page titles too.
- Clean up custom dimensions and events.
- Mask it in heatmaps and session recordings.
- Exclude order numbers.
- Leave User ID switched off.
- Do not track people across sites or reuse the data.
- Offer an opt-out form.
- Update the privacy policy.
It is an honest guide from Matomo itself and it works. It just has to be walked through, kept from being undone later, and revisited every time the site gains a feature.
Datrika has no such guide because it would be empty. We store nothing in the browser and there is no switch that quietly turns privacy off. The reasoning is on how we handle GDPR, and the exact list of what we store is on what we store.
Free on your own server, up to a point
You can download Matomo and run it yourself for free, with no cap on hits or users. That is a real advantage: if you want the data physically in your own hands and you can run a server, Matomo offers something we do not.
It costs two things. A server, meaning a web server, PHP and a MySQL or MariaDB database, plus updates, backups and security. And the premium features that the Community edition leaves out. We sell Datrika only as a hosted service on purpose. If you want the data on your own hardware, Matomo is the better choice and our support will tell you so.
How heavy the tracking script is
Transfer size, gzipped, measured on 14 August 2026. Uncompressed it is 3.8 kB against 156 kB. The gap follows from what each script does: Matomo carries e-commerce, content tracking, heatmaps and Tag Manager.
What Matomo does better
- Open source and self-hosting, free and without a volume cap.
- Heatmaps and session recordings. You see where people click and how they move.
- A/B tests and form analytics, down to the field where people give up.
- Import from Google Analytics. You keep the history; we cannot import it yet.
- A public API to pull the data into your own tools.
- Tag Manager, e-commerce, cohorts and cross-channel attribution.
- Aggregated reports kept indefinitely. We keep detailed data for five years.
If you need heatmaps, A/B tests, your Google Analytics history or the data on your own server, Matomo is the better choice. Datrika is for people who want to know what happens on their site and want nothing to administer around it.
Moving from Matomo
We cannot import your history from Matomo yet. Export whatever matters before you switch Matomo off.
- 1Paste the lineDatrika starts measuring within a minute. Leave Matomo running.
- 2Run both for a monthThe numbers will not match: Matomo counts hits, we count events. Compare the trend and the mix of sources.
- 3Switch Matomo offIf it was self-hosted, its upkeep goes with it, along with the cookie banner you kept for its sake.

Frequently asked questions
Is Datrika cheaper than Matomo?
At ordinary volumes yes, by roughly four times. For 100,000 requests a month you pay €9, Matomo Cloud costs €38 excluding VAT. At a million it is €49 against €172. Matomo on your own server is free, but you need the server and premium features are sold separately. Matomo prices verified on 13 August 2026.
Does Matomo need a cookie banner?
Out of the box, yes. Matomo stores a _pk_id cookie with a unique visitor ID for 13 months. You can run it without consent, and Matomo publishes its own guide for that: 12 steps, including turning cookies off, anonymising the IP address and the referrer, leaving User ID alone and offering an opt-out form. Datrika stores nothing in the browser, so there is nothing to switch off.
Is Matomo free?
The self-hosted edition is, with no cap on hits or users. Premium features are not: funnels, heatmaps, form analytics and A/B tests are paid add-ons, and the Funnels plugin alone starts at €193 a year. Matomo Cloud has no free plan, only a 21-day trial without a card.
What is a hit and how does it differ from an event?
Matomo counts a hit for every interaction sent for processing: a pageview, an event, a file download, an outbound link, a site search. We count events, meaning pageviews and the custom events you turn on. We do not track downloads and outbound links automatically, so at the same traffic Matomo usually counts faster.
What happens when I go over the limit?
With us collection pauses until the next period or an upgrade, and we bill nothing extra. We warn you at 80% of the limit. Matomo Cloud adds €83 a month for every 500,000 hits above your plan.
Does Datrika do heatmaps and session recordings?
No. Matomo does, and that is a fair reason to pick it. We show the path of each visitor step by step, which answers what someone did on the site, but not where they moved the mouse.
Can you import my data from Matomo?
Not yet. We have no historical import. Export the reports you care about from Matomo and run both tools side by side for a month.
How long do you keep data?
Five years on every plan, the free one included. On the free plan the dashboard shows the last 6 months; older data is hidden rather than deleted and comes back when you upgrade. Matomo Cloud keeps raw data for 24 months and aggregated reports indefinitely.
How heavy is the tracking script?
Datrika is 1.7 kB gzipped, 3.8 kB uncompressed. The matomo.js file is 47 kB gzipped and 156 kB uncompressed, measured on 14 August 2026.
Is Datrika open source?
No. We do not publish the code and we sell Datrika only as a hosted service. That is deliberate: we build analytics for people who do not want to run a server, so updates, backups and security are on us. Matomo is open source and you can install it on your own server for free.
What do I need to host Matomo myself?
A web server, PHP and a MySQL or MariaDB database, plus updates, backups and security. With Datrika you paste one line into the page and there is nothing else to run.
Where is the data stored?
Datrika is hosted in Germany, inside the EU. Matomo Cloud keeps data in Europe. If you host Matomo yourself, the data sits wherever your server is.
How many sites and team members can I have?
999 of each on every paid plan with us. Matomo Cloud Business allows 30 sites and 30 team members. Self-hosted Matomo caps neither.
Can I run Datrika and Matomo at the same time?
Yes, they do not interfere. If you leave Matomo on its default settings with cookies, the cookie banner stays for its sake; Datrika changes nothing there.
