What you set up before measuring starts
- Paste one line into the page head.
- An account, a data stream and usually Tag Manager.
- A consent tool that reliably blocks GA4 until the click.
- A cookie banner where Reject looks the same as Accept.
- Analytics cookies must not be pre-ticked.
- Your privacy policy has to name Google explicitly.
A small company rarely handles that alone. With Datrika the whole step disappears, because there is nothing to consent to.
How many visitors the banner costs you
When Reject has to look as prominent as Accept, people press it. Every rejection is a visit GA4 never measures.
Google patches the hole with modelling: the missing numbers are estimated from how everyone else behaved. One report then mixes measurements with estimates. Datrika measures everyone, because there is nothing to consent to.
How heavy the tracking script is
Transferred size, gzipped, measured 14 August 2026. Uncompressed: 3.8 kB against 419 kB. Most sites load Tag Manager and a consent tool on top of gtag.js.
What Google Analytics does better
- Google Ads integration. If paid campaigns are your daily job, you get that link nowhere else.
- BigQuery export and your own data models.
- Attribution across channels and devices.
- Ecommerce reports: products, carts, revenue.
- A free tier with a far bigger volume than ours.
- Endless guides, courses and people who know it.
If your marketing runs on Google Ads, stay with GA4. Datrika is for people who want to know what happens on their site without running a consent programme around it.
How to move off Google Analytics
We will not bring your GA4 history over. Import is not something we do yet. Export what you need from GA4 before you delete the property.
- 1Paste the lineDatrika starts measuring within a minute. Leave Google Analytics running.
- 2Measure with both for a monthCompare the numbers. Datrika usually shows more, because it also counts the people who rejected the banner.
- 3Switch GA4 offThe reason for the cookie banner goes with it. Nothing stops you running both long term.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a cookie banner because of Datrika?
No. We store no cookies and no IP addresses and we collect no personal data, so Datrika itself needs no GDPR consent. The banner may still stay on your site because of other tools, a live chat or an ad pixel for instance.
Is Google Analytics illegal in the EU?
No. You may use it, but only with the visitor’s consent and under further conditions: the tracking code must not run before someone clicks Accept, consent must not be pre-ticked, and rejecting has to be as easy as accepting.
Will you import my Google Analytics history?
Not yet. We cannot import historical data and we would rather say so plainly. Run GA4 alongside Datrika for a month so you have an overlap, and export whatever you need from GA4 before you delete the property.
Can I run Datrika and Google Analytics at the same time?
Yes. They do not interfere and plenty of people start that way. Expect the numbers to differ: GA4 only measures visitors who clicked Accept, Datrika measures everyone.
How heavy is the tracking script?
Datrika is 1.7 kB gzipped, 3.8 kB uncompressed. On 14 August 2026, Google’s gtag.js was 149 kB gzipped, 419 kB uncompressed. Most sites load Tag Manager and a consent management tool on top of it.
Do adblockers block Datrika?
Not yet. Datrika is a new service and is not on the blocklists. We cannot promise that forever, lists change. Google Analytics has been on the common lists for years.
Where does the data physically sit?
In Germany, on servers inside the European Union. Nothing leaves the EU. Google Analytics processes data on Google servers and legitimises the transfer under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which Google is part of.
What happens to my data if I stay on the free plan?
Nothing gets deleted. We keep data for 5 years on every plan, the free one included; the dashboard simply limits your date picker to the last 6 months. Move to a paid plan and the rest of the history opens up. Google Analytics 4 keeps event-level data for at most 14 months on the free tier.
What happens if I go over my plan limit?
Nothing dramatic. We tell you when you reach 80 % of the limit. If you do go over, collection pauses until the next period or until you upgrade, and we bill you nothing extra.
Do I have to change my privacy policy because of Datrika?
We process no personal data, so the obligation does not change. We still suggest mentioning analytics for transparency. Discuss the exact wording with your lawyer.
Is Datrika open source?
No. We do not publish the code and we sell Datrika only as a cloud service. That is deliberate: we build analytics for people who do not want to run a server, so updates, backups and security are on us. If you want to self-host, look at Matomo, Plausible or Umami.
What does Datrika cost?
Free up to 5,000 events a month. Paid plans start at €6 a month for 50,000 events and include goals, funnels, visits, shared dashboards and team members at no extra charge. Google Analytics is free within its usual limits.
Why do Datrika and Google Analytics show different numbers?
Because they measure different things. In the EU, GA4 only collects data after consent, so it misses everyone who rejected the banner, and it fills the gap with modelling. Datrika measures everyone and models nothing. Compare trends and the ratio between sources, not absolute numbers.
